One in a row

The end of the world as we knew it Just a few thousand people Bombs in September took care of all thatGone at the drop of a hat Still there is hope though there is fearStill there is hope Lo how the mighty have fallenMens’ faces twisted in anger Not even safe in our homes

It was all hot tar and watermelon rinds in the Georgia summer where I grew up We burned our feet and we barked our shins but we all came out of it right enough Down in the bible belt Southern Baptist – separate churches for black and whites The white people prayed on a Sunday

Christ I feel like hell today Dark angel took my friend away By a cold hand through the furthest door Can’t believe I won’t see her no more I look for justice I look for peace Some cold comfort for my troubled mind And why certain things have to be Sometimes life seems so unkind

Wouldn’t trade my body – wouldn’t trade my bodyEyes to see – a mouth to talk – hands to work – legs to walk A will to serve this man within my universe my cosmic grinWouldn’t trade my body Wouldn’t trade my heart – wouldn’t trade my heartIt’s grown used to me by now sealed

I met a young lady on a train going back to a land where I didn’t belongI met a young lady on a train rideOh what a feeling inside She was soulful young lady who looked like a tree That swayed in the wind with varietyI met a young lady on a train rideOh what

What a laugh what a jokeActing on a tip you see The cops came up and stole my smokeFive of them and one of me They came on the front porch people Came in through the back door tooThey came to rob my steepleTake me down and do my due Up to now I’d suspected

What’s wrong with the world I’m living in Too many bombs not enough playgrounds What’s wrong with the world I’m living in Used to be time to do what you want to But I ain’t giving in and I ain’t giving upAin’t giving in and I ain’t giving upI ain’t rolling over no I ain’t

A winter’s day sunlight shining down Back in the hills snow is still upon the ground The wind is gone blew itself back out to sea Which gives me hope that spring will come here finally A winter’s night Where is the light The wind is back I fade to black horizontal sleet and rain

Practicing Christian everyday He don’t go to church on Sunday For him that’s just another day to be a practicing Christian every day Jesus taught tolerance to everyone You can find that in the Bible son Take a hard look in the world today You see all the churches going the other way Thy kingdom
